My name's Hendrick Stoops. While I'm not writing on Blogspot or working on SketchUp I'm reading my yoctillionth (a trillion trillion) book of the year. Besides airships I enjoy researching ocean liners (I have around 120 cruise brochures!), airliners, architecture, skyscrapers, Westinghouse, suburban house design, and, and, and...     Hello Hendrick. Just a little note to let you know that Airship Modeler is gone, again. Maybe for good this time. So maybe you and I, if we want to post anything about dirigibles, should focus on posting on our respective blogs, only. I had just gotten done restoring images to a couple of my old threads over there, when the forum disappeared, again. What a waste!

      Trust me, I did more than a few clicks on the "refresh" button just to see if it'd make a difference... If you'd be interested, either one of us could set up a "supplementary blog" of sorts and connect it to Twitterfeed, that way, when either blog has a post with a tag (say airship or airshipmodeler) it'd post simultaneously to that site. I think there'd be a big 'pro' to having a setup like this (more posts means more views hopefully from those originally connected to the old site) but also more than a few cons. Tell me what you think!

March Airship of the Month: ZR-1 Shenandoah

14 DIE IN SHENANDOAH CRASH With this headline, on the morning of September 3rd, 1925, the Baltimore American announced the crash of the first American rigid airship. The ZR-1 Shenandoah (originally designated "Fleet Airship No. 1" represented the start of America's unfortunate association with rigid airships.  Assembled at the Lakehurst Naval Air Station the then FA-1 was copied from a wartime German Zeppelin.  The Shenandoah garnered several firsts during her short career including the first transcontinental airship flight, the first airship to launch aircraft, the first airship to moor to a ship (the U.S.S. Patoka, more about that ship later) and, of course, the first American built airship. The ZR-1 takes shape in the same hangar that would later shelter the Hindenburg.
